Sydney Sweeney 'worked out every single day for three months'
Sydney Sweeney "worked out every single day for three months" in preparation for Christy.
The 28-year-old actress plays a former professional boxer in the new sports drama movie, and Sydney admits that she pushed herself to her physical limits in preparation for the role.
The blonde beauty - who has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent years - told The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast: "I went back home to Idaho and I turned my grandma’s shed into my Rocky gym, I built a floor ring and I hung some heavy bags, and I brought my trainer up and I worked out every single day for three months."
Sydney actually suffered numerous physical injuries during the shoot.
She said: "We were just pummeling each other; I mean, there were bloody noses, bruises, I got a concussion, like, we were going at it."
Despite this, Sydney relished the challenge of playing Christy Martin, who was America's best-known female boxer in the 1990s. The actress explained that the role was unlike anything she's previously done in her career.
She said: "I’ve never had a character that has truly impacted people’s lives in that type of way, and it’s kind of been life-changing."
Sydney also developed a close bond with Christy off screen.
The actress shared: "Within like five seconds of meeting her, she became my best friend — I was like, ‘I want you around 24/7′."
Meanwhile, Sydney recently insisted that she doesn't "just make art for numbers".
The actress admitted that she feels "deeply proud" of Christy - even though it hasn't proven to be a commercial success.
Alongside a carousel of photos from the film, Sydney - who also co-produced the David Michod-directed movie - wrote on Instagram: "i am so deeply proud of this movie.
"proud of the film david made. proud of the story we told. proud to represent someone as strong and resilient as Christy Martin. this experience has been one of the greatest honors of my life.
"this film stands for survival, courage, and hope. through our campaigns, we’ve helped raise awareness for so many affected by domestic violence. we all signed on to this film with the belief that christy’s story could save lives.
"thank you to everyone who saw, felt, and believed and will believe in this story for years to come. if christy gave even one woman the courage to take her first step toward safety, then we will have succeeded. so yes I’m proud. why? because we don’t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact. and christy has been the most impactful project of my life. thank you christy. i love you.
