Maya Hawke joins Maestro cast
Maya Hawke has joined the cast of Bradley Cooper's Leonard Bernstein biopic 'Maestro'.
The 23-year-old star has boarded the movie that will tell the story of the conductor and composer behind works such as 'West Side Story'.
Bradley is playing the lead role in the movie with Carey Mulligan and Matt Bomer also attached to star in the Netflix project. Hawke will play Bernstein's daughter Jamie.
The flick has been written by Cooper and Josh Singer and charts the complex love story between Bernstein and Felicia Cohn Montealegre. The romance spanned more than 30 years – from their first meeting in 1946, continuing through two on-off engagements, a 25-year marriage and three children as Bernstein grappled with his own sexuality.
Filming will begin next month in New York with Cooper, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger, Fred Berner and Amy Durning all producing the movie.
Maya is the daughter of movie stars Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman and is aware that her famous parents have "made it easy" for her to become an actress.
The 'Stranger Things' actress said: "I'm very grateful for the fact that they made it so easy for me to do the thing that I love. I think I'll get a couple chances on their name and then if I suck, I'll get kicked out of the kingdom. And that's what should happen. So I'm just going to try not to suck."
Maya also insisted that there was "no moment" in which she realised she had a passion for acting.
She explained: "There was no moment. I was always just doing school plays and acting camp over the summer. I guess it clicked for me that I wanted to do it professionally was when I realized that there were no school plays for adults. The happiest place in the world for me was on set or on stage."
