Mark Ruffalo confirms The Hulk will not be in Avengers: Doomsday
Mark Ruffalo’s The Incredible Hulk will not appear in Avengers: Doomsday.
The 58-year-old actor has portrayed the giant green hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since 2012’s The Avengers and was last seen in the 2022 Disney+ show She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and while Doomsday will feature the largest ensemble cast in the franchise’s history, Ruffalo has confirmed his Hulk will not show up in the film.
Even so, Ruffalo - who stars alongside his Marvel co-star Chris Hemsworth in the upcoming thriller Crime 101 - has insisted he is always open to returning as Hulk in the future.
Speaking with Empire magazine, the Poor Things star said: “As long as they keep finding cool things to do with Hulk. It's given me so many gifts. You know, I probably wouldn't be in Crime 101 if it wasn't for The Avengers.”
While Ruffalo’s Hulk will not feature in Avengers: Doomsday, the character is to appear alongside Tom Holland’s titular Web-Head in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The Sony/Marvel movie - due to land in cinemas in July 2026 - will also star Zendaya as Michelle ‘MJ’ Jones-Watson, Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds and Sadie Sink in an unknown role.
As well as Ruffalo, fellow MCU star Chris Pratt - who has portrayed Star-Lord in the franchise since 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy - recently addressed his potential Marvel return.
The 46-year-old actor revealed he would “really love” to play the character again and make good on the end-screen tease of Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3, which promised Star-Lord would return at some point in the future.
During an interview with ScreenTime, the Mercy star said: “We made a promise with Guardians of the Galaxy that Star-Lord would return.
“I think I would really love to make good on that promise.”
Avengers: Doomsday will star Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Sebastian Stan (James ‘Bucky’ Barnes), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent), David Harbour (Red Guardian) and Lewis Pullman (Sentry).
The Fantastic Four - as portrayed by Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (The Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing) - are slated to feature as well.
The film will also see the return of X-Men icons Sir Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Sir Ian McKellen (Magneto), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Channing Tatum (Gambit), James Marsden (Cyclops), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler) and Rebecca Romijn (Mystique).
It has also been confirmed Chris Evans will be returning to play Steve Rogers again after last portraying Captain America in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
Avengers: Doomsday - which is being helmed by directors Joe and Anthony Russo and is set to release on December 18, 2026 - will likely follow the Avengers, the New Avengers, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four as they desperately try to stop Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) from unleashing his devastating plans across the Multiverse.
