It Follows sequel set to start filming next year

'They Follow' will start filming in 2024.

The highly anticipated sequel to 'It Follows' - which was first released in 2014 - has officially been greenlight by studio Neon with director David Robert Mitchell and actress Maika Monroe both set to return.

The filmmaker will write the new movie while also being at the helm, and Monroe is reprising her role as Jay Height.

Plot details for the sequel are still to be revealed, with no synopsis released yet, and cameras still a few months away from rolling.

However, it's clear from Monroe's return that her character Jay will still be caught up in the curse.

In the original movie, is passed from one person to another, which saw them being followed by 'it' until they died.

Back in 2015, Tom Quinn - the co-president of Radius-TWC, who distributed the movie with Dimension Films - noted a follow-up was on the cards.

He told Entertainment Weekly: "I don’t want to give away too much, but we’ve thought about it."

He added that there was "so much you could do" for a sequel, while director Mitchell admitted he was "open" to the idea.

He told Vulture at the time: "I have a lot of different kinds of projects in many different genres, so I don’t know that a sequel would be the next thing that I would do, but I’m certainly open to it.

“I just kinda want to see how things play out.”

And Monroe herself revealed that she was also keen on working with the filmmaker again.

She said: "I don’t know where the story would go, but I would love to work with David, the director, again, because I think he’s incredible, and what he created here was something else.

“We’ll see how it does. Maybe! Maybe!”
