Isla Fisher playing divorced mother in new Bridget Jones movie
Isla Fisher is to play a divorcee in 'Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy'.
The 48-year-old star is due to begin filming for the new picture this week and sources say that she will play friends of Renee Zellweger's Bridget.
The part has parallels with Isla's situation in real life as it was announced last month that she had split with her husband Sacha Baron Cohen in 2023 after 13 years of marriage.
An insider told The Sun newspaper: "Isla's real life is inspiring her new role in the 'Bridget Jones' film. She plays a single mother who befriended Bridget at the school gates.
"Isla loves 'Bridget Jones' and is thrilled that she landed the part. Her own experience will help her in the role and it's great she's landed such a big part after a really tough time.
"Isla will start filming this week with Renee and other cast members."
It was previously revealed that Zellweger will be sharing a kiss with co-star Leo Woodall – who is 28 years her junior – in the upcoming picture which marks the fourth installment of the franchise.
The film, which is based on Helen Fielding's 2013 novel of the same name, will see Bridget adjusting to life as a single mother following the death of her husband Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) and it has been suggested that the character will be a "cougar" in the flick that is being released in February 2025.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Bridget is going to be a real cougar in the new film and she'll be seen starting a relationship with a much younger character played by Leo.
"He was thrilled about landing the part and will have a major role as her love interest in 'Mad About the Boy'.
"Bridget is a single mum trying to navigate a new world of social media and dating apps after Mark's death, so she's definitely going to end up in a pickle.
"Hugh Grant is back as Daniel Cleaver, so there will be a love triangle between Bridget's older flame and this much younger new man."
